Web Smarts

Learn when to trust a website and when to avoid it

For Teachers

Be honest:

Have you ever posted "LOL" on the Internet when you weren't laughing at all? Or read "ROTFL" and suspected that the other person wasn't even smiling? Have you ever clicked on a picture or a website and wondered if what you were seeing was real or fake?

If you answered "yes" to any of those questions, it won't be a surprise to learn that you can't always believe what you see or read on the Internet. Though the web contains enough data to fill more than one million libraries, not all of its information can be trusted. It's up to you, the educated user, to decide whether a web source is trustworthy. It's a big, wide web out there, but don't worry: We can show you how to avoid getting tangled up in all that information.
